A Breath of Fresh Hair

We’re always at the mercy of the ones who does our hair and in my case, I’m the passive guy who simply wants to get it over with. There are times when I wish that there would be a place that’s approachable enough to get my hair styled as neat as possible.

With pompadours on the rise, man-buns making its way on the street, perfectly trimmed beards and facial hair making an appearance…it’s safe to say that male grooming is finally getting the attention it deserves.

But while us men will admittedly make more effort by way of aesthetics, the process of getting the right look still prompts us to demand the simplicity and straightforwardness of traditional barbershops.

“Most women like being whisked away to a secluded world of pampering for their beauty treatments; most men will expect an efficient and clear-cut service—but not at the expense of style,” explains Ramon De Ubago III, CEO of Sports Barbers.

This gave way to a new breed of barbershops—one that delivers the kind of service that they expect that essentially gives a modern take on an old classic. And while there have been a few cropping up here and there, none have been more accessible or as successful in providing the stylish sense that today’s grooming generation seeks than Sports Barbers.

With 12 branches nationwide, it recently unveiled another milestone as it opened its 12th branch in SM North Edsa last December 2016. This place recreates the traditional concept of your go-to neighborhood barbershop and offers a destination.

The entire concept of Sports Barbers is to deliver the best cuts for clients, inspired by traditional hairstyles and the most stylish men. The brand’s crop of barber-stylists, a term derived from the fusion of Vidal Sassoon trained cutting and styling mixed with the efficient sensibilities of old-school barbers, mean clients can confidently step into any branch and emerge looking as dapper as they can be.

I personally haven’t tried this barbershop but what piqued my interest is their words of promised: “The idea is to create a go-to destination for men where they can expect the reliable, time-honored techniques of traditional barbering and yet know they are in the hand of people who will be able to tell the difference between a short sides with brush top versus buzz crop or a pompadour versus a slick back,” ends De Ubago. With that being said I can’t wait to share my first experience later, on my next blog post.

Let’s find out whether Sports Barbers Barbershop will make it to the cut~ *pun intended*

Update:8

Like what I’ve mentioned, I’m not someone who’ll take the effort of getting a better hairstyle. Looking good is one thing but being hassle free is always my kind of thing. Here’s me trying out Sports Barbers Barbershop at SM Southmall.

It was a first for me being comfortable in trying on a new style especially with the accommodating hairdresser “Kuya Bong”. I told him that I always just ask to have a Barber’s Hairstyle but then he probed if I wanted to try something new. We’ll I’ve been meaning to but never had the guts. I also have some trust issues so I don’t know if my hairdresser will do a good job. Yes! hashtag #paranoid!

The moment of truth! I liked what Kuya Bong did to my hair. The actual haircut was done swiftly. I thought it would take longer but his expertise probably helped make it a breeze. He also made sure to give me a haircut that would be easy to style since I’m always in a hurry to go to work.

I also got to try their anti-dandruff treatment which was super cool! It’s not just a metaphor but it’s literally super cool on the scalp. I noticed that they didn’t hold back on applying the solution which got me to thinking that it was all worth it if it’s like that.

Overall I’m very satisfied with the ambiance of the place, the service, the style, and most especially the staff. I wasn’t given any special treatment and was assigned to anyone available but rest assured I got nothing but the best. A business is as good as your workers, right?

  1. Well, I will surely recommend this to my boyfriend as he is always on a hunt for a good and quality barber place. He always has his hair cut with Bench Fix. It’s relatively affordable. I wonder about the prices for this one. I can’t seem to zoom in on the photo you posted. Hope you can fix it. I’d love to check the prices out. Thank you!

  2. This is good and something refreshing. I enjoyed reading your review. I’m actually curious how barber shops can be differentiated with any other. Btw, they gave you a good haircut and that scalp treatment is a big plus. I might recommend this to the boys.
